for waking up with us. i'm gurvir dhindsa. >> glad to have you along. before we get to tony and our forecast up here, flooding is causing a left yes to fail this morning. it is forcing more people to evacuate. >> residents in central wisconsin starting fleeing their homes when that levee started to fail last night. wisconsin river has cut off people in one neighborhood in the town of portage. it is not clear exactly how many of the 300 residents are now stranded. they did not heed the warning to evacuate. the levee has not completely collapsed but officials say it is leaking. >> we have a little bit of wet weather out there this morning. >> some rain showers across the area. none ever them particularly heavy at this hour but we could show some more rainfall develop during the morning and during the daytime and some of it could be heavy at times. we'll start with the satellite- radar composite, show you how things are shaping up across the region. there you go. you can see a pretty good amount of rain. let me tell you this. we have a variety of radars that we look at. this one is overplaying

to get you started today at 6:00. we are glad you're with us early i'm gurvir dhindsa. >> i'm steve chenevey. thank you for being with us. let's talk about earl a little bit more now. evacuations are already under way in north carolina this morning as hurricane earl approaches the east coast. officials ordered all tourists to leave okracoke island starting at 5:00 a.m. this morning. the island's year-round residents are being asked to leave but they do not have to follow the evacuation order. >>> the scene was pretty peaceful along north carolina's outer banks yesterday but the storm is expected to range bring high winds and rains to the area by late thursday, early friday. all right, tuck. we are preparing for what is going on there. just hot for us here. >> mid-90s again in the forecast here. the big change from last night when most people went to bed, hurricane watch now issued for the virginia coastline in addition to most of the north carolina. got a map to show you. we'll take another quick look at earl. surf city, north carolina to paramour island, that is under a hurricane w

news from capitol hill where there has apparently been a shooting possibly involving u.s. capitol police. >> this happened at second and c streets southwest. it was just about an hour ago and that is near the demeanor of health and human services building. -- the department of health and human services building. sherry ly joins us with the latest. >> reporter: good morning. we are actually right here near the capitol, the ray bun building as well which houses some of the house members and then over there is the hght and human services building that you mentioned. town there on c street is where the shooting happened. here what is we know right now. the shooting apparently involving u.s. capitol police just before 5:00 this morning. there are reports that the suspect was shot in the and. he was down but conscious. this was a 200 block of c street in southwest. again, happening just before 5:00 this morning. there were a number of evidence markers on the scene. typically, those would be evidence of shell casing suggesting perhaps that multiple shots were fired again based on the inf

look outside as we get you going on this tuesday morning. thank you so much for being up early with us here foe fox 5 morning news. it is a little wet out there. >> it sure is. we have some rain coming down pretty heavy in some areas. let's check in with tony perkins. >> we've got rainfall. some of the rain is heavy here and there. we are going to likely see rain continue during the course of the morning hours. we have a flash flood watch in effect until 8:00 this morning for most of the area because of that rain. lets astart with hd radar. we'll show hua is happening as we speak. now, not the entire area is seeing heavy rain. it is a band of rain moving from the south to the north. that is now coming through man as just to the west of reston, virginia, up into leesburg, near gaithersburg and this is pushing to the north-northeast. we'll keep our eyes on this through the course of the morning. one little anwr owe band of heavy rain but there are more rain showers off to the east in prince george's county, anne arundel county, places like that in the chesapeake bay. more run will be arr
